Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei met with senior administration officials at the White House on Friday, raising new questions about the artificial intelligence company’s relationship with the Trump administration as it navigates an ongoing dispute with the Department of Defense.
The White House characterized the session as an “introductory meeting” that was “both productive and constructive.”
The meeting included Amodei, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The session came roughly ten days after Anthropic announced it would restrict access to its new Mythos model, limiting its release to a select group of companies, financial institutions, and government entities. The company cited the model’s advanced cybersecurity capabilities as the basis for that decision. While the tool can assist governments in identifying vulnerabilities in infrastructure, web browsers, and software systems, it also presents risks by potentially lowering the barrier for malicious actors to exploit those same weaknesses.
